Today, I was watching a video of my most favorite youtube tarot girlies and she was saying that the astrology is very reminiscent of the astrology of 1811. I gasped, paused the video and yelled to my partner in excitement. The reason is that Bridgerton, which I have binge-watched for the first time over the last two weeks, is set in 1811.
When Bridgerton first came out I didn’t watch it—I tried the pilot but then stopped halfway through. I’ve never really been attracted to shows that are so close to the English monarchy, like the Crown. This is probably because of the enduring legacy of colonialism on my people and because of how painful those time periods were for pretty much every person of color that existed.
I’m not sure what compelled me to start watching it again a few weeks ago, but this time was different—I was hooked and instantly compelled. While the first season was really enjoyable because it introduced you to the world, I felt like I really adored the second season, which gave me such a deep appreciation for the show, the characters and their arcs.
If you haven’t seen the show, I’m about to spoil the shit out of it for you, so just keep that in mind.
