Hi allll
I know I haven’t written in a while—so much has happened, between coming back from Pakistan and then going to LA for AWP. I haven’t had a single moment to even really sit down and think, which is why I have been slow at getting updates out.
BUT, I dooo have an extremely exciting update! Which is that I am shooting a short film I wrote this week called ANATOMY OF A FUCKBOY, a film that I love and am so proud of and is just a deeply silly comedy that’s starring so many queer and trans people of color.

I know that this is a hard time to donate for folks. But this weekend I went and saw SINNERS in theaters and loved it and was reminded what good, collective art can do—can inspire, can break the rut, can give people something to joyously squeal over and delight in and talk about for days and hours. It reminded me how much we need movies, how much we need film, how much we need these things in our ever-increasing dire time in order to uplift, to be happy, to find some kind of will to keep moving forward.
When I made Brown Girls, it came out right when Trump was elected. I remember making it because all my friends were activists and struggling—it felt like I was watching everyone I loved advocate so hard to just be considered human, for just basic rights, and it was killing me. I made the web series for a very simple intent: I just wanted to see my friends laugh. I wanted something that was tailor made to them, that they could see themselves in.
Similarly, I made this because I wanted to see communities of color, queer communities, trans and nonbinary communities, laugh. I wanted to make something where we all could feel united on—the topic of Fuckboys (lol)—where we could all commiserate and debate as we do. This project is so dear to me—some of these characters are pulled from a pilot I wrote ten years ago that was in development with Universal TV and Mindy Kaling before being axed, characters that I love but that studios didn’t think audience would be ready for.
We’re trying to raise $11k to finish out our project. We’ve already been able to raise $13k. If we get another $5k, that means we’ll have our full shooting budget, if we raise the full $11, we’ll be good through post.
